Summary

The Nevada Recyclers Association (NRA) was established in 1990 by Robert Combs of R.C. Farms and kicked off the concept of recycling in Las Vegas.  The organization was viable until 2002.  The organization was revived in November 2006 and is in the process of being reinstated as a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization as of November 2007.  The purpose of the present day organization is to be the resource in Nevada for all recycling needs.

A Board of Directors was elected by the general membership consisting of the following offices:  President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Director at Large.  Each member of the Board of Directors manages one of the following committees:

Membership/Fundraising
Legislative Action
Administrative
Education/Outreach
Market Development

The NRA offers multiple services related to recycling to individuals, commercial organizations, and non-profit and government organizations.  These services include a website, advertising, fundraising events, educational workshops, incentives, networking opportunities, monthly e-newsletters, and the ability to influence legislation related to recycling.

One incentive is being established in the startup year, the Combs Family Award for the recycler of the year.  The first award will be presented at the December 2007 fundraiser.

The goal is to have 100 paid members by June of 2008 and 300 paid members by January 2009.  The membership consists of the following levels:

  • Platinum

  • Silver
  • Individual
  • Education/Government/Non-profit
  • Student

The projected income for 2007-2008 startup is $150,000 with expenses projected to be $122,810.  The projected income for 2009 is $150,000 with expenses projected to be $157,500.  The income will be coming from membership, fundraising, grants and gifts, website banners, and advertising on bins.
